"People with poor self-images always want to inflate the power and evilness of their real or imagined opponents. After all, if there’s a Gigantic Global Satanic Conspiracy to defeat the Forces of Goodness, the people believing in it can think of themselves as “fighting on the side of the angels,” instead of as the pathetic, demon-obsessed, xenophobes that they really are."

The above paragraph was taken from a neopagan website arguing that that Christians are fear mongering regarding harmless Halloween celebrations. The first thing to note is the ad hominem attack on Christians. The second is the downplaying of the power of the evil of Satan and his minions. If I was Satan or one the other fallen angels, I would be thrilled with this sort of website, and those who are willing to celebrate demons, witches, and a culture of death. It does exactly what Satan wants--it dismisses Christians as pathetic, fear-filled nutjobs with low self-esteem who are afraid of those who are not just like them. BUNK. Christians are not afraid of new world order pagans. Rather, Christians abhor (for the neopagans, that means to loath or detest)their behavior and worshipping anything other than Almighty God, the Creator.
Satan and demons are very real as attested in Ephesians 6:12 which says:
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
One cannot believe in angels and not believe in demons who are fallen angels. Satan is a fallen angel. He will do whatever it takes, including using Halloween, as means to dissuade we humans away from accepting the salvation Jesus Christ paid for on the cross. Remember, Satan even tried to persuade Jesus into worshipping him in the desert. Do you really think he (or his followers) will not try to convince you into doing the same thing?

Excellent post.
I like reading your blog because you always make me think. I go to church and don't remember my preacher ever talking abou thigns like this. I mean I knew that Satan was bad and now about Wiccans and satanist but I know more about vampires which aren't real. I should know more about where evil comes from.
Thanks, Dave.
Megan, maybe you should spend some time in prayer over the situation with your church/pastor.
I don't want to influence you, but I believe it is important to learn all of what the Bible says not just some of it.
Its hard to leave your church when your comfortable with it. Maybe you could visit some others to check them out.
Actually the first paragraph reminds me of " you know who" I have made a few posts to Jaylar's that have not appeared, I know you would put them up if you got them so I don't know what is happening....... I have had trouble with blogger the past two weeks, but I have had server issues and blogger will not tolerate a lousy signal.
I read this several times. It's a very powerful statement. I've never thought about Halloween in these terms before. How do you come up with this stuff.
Some people just make too big a deal out of halloween which is just for fun. My whole family really gets into it. We dress up and decorate the house. We like to throw halloween parties and scarre the kids who come. it kicks off hte fall and winter holidays.
Happy
I don't remember getting any responses from you that I didn't publish. They must be lost in space somewhere. If you remember what you said, say it again.
Things just come to me, Mark. I can't explain it .... haha.
Who are you talking about, Anonymous? Me or Christians in general or what? Please explain.
I mean I just don't see what the problem is with halloween. If you don't like halloween don't take part in it. Why stop others from having harmless fun.
Jaylar, I think many people today have no idea about what Halloween represents anymore than they do Christmas...just another reason to start the party.Sad but true..
I already have a post in mind for Christmas.
You are right. Most of the history behind these "holidays" is forgotten by the masses. But if anyone really wants to investigate it they can on the internet or library.
to anonymous, point that Jaylar is making is that halloween isn't harmless.
